Celtic copper and brass triskele necklace by JLHilton Celtic copper and brass triskele necklace by JLHilton
This is a necklace made with copper and brass discs. I drew each triskele (triple spiral) by hand onto the brass discs with permanent marker and submerged them in ferric chloride (aka acid etching). After neutralizing the acid, cleaning and polishing the discs, I hammered them into domed shapes and riveted them to copper (also hammered into a domed shape by hand with a chasing hammer). The designs are then oxidized with silver black and polished again.

To see highlights of the process, check out my youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/JLHjewelr…

This necklace is not for sale, it is part of my personal collection. Because of the great deal of time involved in creating a piece like this, commissions would be quite expensive.

Beautiful piece; well worth all the work you put in to crafting it. To think that such fine, detailed results were worked on with a hammer and rivet is almost mind-boggling.

Well, don't forget the drawing and acid etching, too. I didn't hammer the designs themselves into the metal, I drew the designs on the disks and then submerged them in ferric chloride. Then I neutralized the acid, washed, polished, and hammered the brass disks into a domed shape, and riveted the brass to copper (after also hammering the copper into a dome shape).

Ah! Thank you for the detailed explanation; it might be an idea to list the process in the piece description, so that people are aware of how much work you've put in. I'm sure other metalworkers would be interested, too.

Yeah, that's why I included a link to my Youtube channel in the description, so if anyone's interested they can check out my videos about the process.
